Determination vs Forced Determination

Determination vs Forced Determination

This post will be a short rant about why I think the world is in this current situation that it is in.

See, somewhere along the way we adapted the word "determination" from something being "absolutely will be carried out" to "let's see where this motivation/hopefulness leads to". The drive wasn't all there. The forward propulsion was missing. And we applied this thinking to almost every one of our interactions, from ordinary social  etiquette to political activities.

We, as a society, felt like we were progressing, moving forward. But we were as moving forward as the water in an aquarium - society eventually felt stagnant. Every politician talked about changes, but in reality no politician was willing to take the risk to make those changes. Every celebrity talked about human rights but very few actually took any action - they didn't want to lose viewership.

People are just too careful. Determination requires taking risks. And risk requires courage.

And what do you think happens when there is a lack of strong determination? A lack of strong conviction? Vacuum happens. A lack of strong determination creates room for a strong conviction - doesn't matter if the belief is for the greater good or not. Someone will rise up to fill that void. And this is where we are at currently in the world stage. The media can put labels on stuff any way they like to spin their narratives but we are seeing a rise of politicians and celebrities that are saying/doing whatever they want and doing so without any consequences. And add to that - they usually have a large determined group of followers. Even if their actions are net negative, the followers are not dwindling in size. What gives?

I think people get charmed by the sense of strong conviction that they present and it is this conviction that the followers have been looking for forever.
But with anything that is too strong, it will eventually tip the scale and the world will be out of equilibrium. I feel like that is where we are currently heading towards. When the political and social climates hit the right amount of unbalancedness, the people that were previously not that strongly determined will be forced to become more determined. Some might call it driving people "to the edge" but I like to think of it as when a car gets almost tipped  but then it settles back on the ground again.

With so much death and destruction happening around the world, it is more important than ever to not only remain hopeful, but to also display your determination in its full glory.
